THE DALGARNO SINGERS

home about us timetable contact

The Dalgarno Singers are a Thornhill-based choir which formed in 1974 and now has about 40 members. Our name comes from the old settlement, Dalgarno or Dalgarnock, where Thornhill now stands. We sing a mixture of traditional songs (folk tunes such as those of Burns), classical choral works (typically Haydn, Handel, Mozart, Rutter and Schubert), and show tunes (recently from My Fair Lady and Les Miserables). Each rehearsal is conducted by our musical director and our accompanist..

Reviews of - Sir John Stainer's - The Crucifixion

Saturday 4th April 2015, Thornhill Parish Church

"The augmented Choir, under choirmaster Andrew Thorne, gave a very moving performance of "The Crucifixion", with the sadder and more solemn movements contrasting with their rousing "Procession to Calvary - Fling Wide the Gates"" - Sandi McIver

"Many thanks for the opportunity to sing last Saturday. It was a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon and evening. . And what fantastic hospitality too!" - Stephanie Dewhurst

"We write with our thank-you for organising this and inviting us to sing - most enjoyable and we thought it was a great success and definitely something that could be repeated." - Gavin/ Sue King-Smith

"Thanks to you and the rest of the committee for organising it - it was a wonderful sing" - Emma Munday
